Russia for direct negotiations between Morocco, Polisario Front

(SPS) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed support for direct negotiations between Morocco and Polisario Front for the resolution of Western Sahara conflict.

"Russia supports direct negotiations between the two parties to Western Sahara conflict, the Kingdom of Morocco and Polisario Front," Lavrov told a press conference held jointly with Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel.

The Russian Foreign minister also expressed views on some crises and conflicts, especially in Syria, Libya and Mali.

In this regard, he noted a convergence of views between Algeria and Russia on these issues, particularly regarding the need to promote political solutions to these crises, without any foreign interference and with respect for the right of people to self-determination.

In this respect, Lavrov underlined the need to strengthen the role of the United Nations in preserving and promoting international peace and security

Major General of Bangladesh appointed MINURSO Force Commander

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced Thursday the appointment of Major General Fakhrul Ahsan of Bangladesh as Force Commander of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), the UN said in a statement. Major General Ahsan succeeds Major General Zia Ur Rehman of Pakistan who completed his assignment at the end of March 2022, according to the statement published on the UN website. Major General Ahsan has over 34 years of national and international military leadership experience with the Bangladeshi Army. SPLA carries out new attacks against Moroccan occupation forces in Farsia and Mahbes sectors

Birlahlou (Liberated Territories), 5 September 2022 (SPS) - Units of the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army (SPLA) carried out new attacks against positions of the Moroccan occupying forces in the two sectors of Farsia and Mahbes, indicated Sunday the Sahrawi Ministry of Defense in its communiqué N 622. According to the communiqué, SPLA units bombarded occupying forces in the regions of Oudiat Echedida (Farsia sector), Laakad and Agouira Ould Abelal, Oudi Dhamran and Akrara Fersik (Mahbes sector). Advanced detachments of the Saharawi Army had targeted the Moroccan occupation forces entrenched in the sectors of Aousserd, Atouizki and Mahbès as well as in the regions of Guelb Nos, Tadarourt, Mesmar, Laakad and Agouira Ould Abelal, the communiqué concluded.
